The 91直播视频 hosted its inaugural 91直播视频Authors Celebration on April 8, recognizing 32 faculty and professional staff members for book-length scholarship and creative works published since 2020.
The evening reception was held in the Ketchum Library Art Gallery on the Biddeford Campus and brought together authors from across UNE鈥檚 seven colleges alongside colleagues, students, and administrators. Published works were on display throughout the gallery for guests to browse and discuss directly with their authors.
鈥淚f you look at the titles represented today, the breadth of our authors is really, truly staggering,鈥 said Gwendolyn Mahon, M.Sc., Ph.D., 91直播视频provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs. 鈥淵our books are the artifacts of your brilliance 鈥 the resources our students will cite, the texts that will sit on the shelves of our peers globally, and the evidence of UNE鈥檚 enduring scholarly impact.鈥
The celebration, held in advance of National Library Week (April 19-25), was organized by 91直播视频Library Services. Sonya Durney, Ph.D., MLIS, scholarly communication librarian, played a central role in identifying and tracking the University鈥檚 scholarly output. The library maintains a digital bookshelf of UNE-authored works and currently catalogs more than 269 titles by UNE-affiliated authors, a collection that has grown significantly as the volume of scholarly activity across the institution has increased in recent years.
鈥淲e should celebrate all the scholarship that happens at UNE,鈥 said Elizabeth Dyer, M.L.I.S., M.S.Ed., AHIP, , who noted that a book publication can go unrecognized beyond an author鈥檚 own department without an effort like this. 鈥淚t鈥檚 just a way to share information and promote the University to ourselves and also our wider community.鈥
Books represented spanned disciplines including health sciences, environmental studies, the humanities, social sciences, and business. Organizers plan to hold the event annually going forward, with each future celebration focusing on the preceding year鈥檚 publications.
Faculty and professional staff who publish are encouraged to notify the library to ensure their work is included. More information about UNE鈥檚 authored works collection is available at .
