Dora Mills interviewed on WMTW News 8 about Maine鈥檚 public health nurse vacancy rate
Dora Mills, M.D., M.P.H., was interviewed by WMTW News 8 for a story that aired on November 6, 2014, concerning the fact that 13 of Maine鈥檚 public health nurse positions are currently vacant.
Mills, the former head of the Maine CDC from 1996 to 2011, commented that the state鈥檚 public health nurses are "our ground troops here in鈥 Maine to respond to any emerging health issue whether it鈥檚 a public health emergency鈥 or just regular old flu and other health issues鈥"
She expressed unease about the high number of vacancies, stating, "When I hear that about a third of our public health nurses positions are vacant around the state, the concern to me is whether they are able to fully respond to emerging issues."
